In January, Amsterdam brings a special shine to the long nights of Winter that you won't want to miss! Experience the open-air spectacle of light and creativity known as the Light Festival Amsterdam'. This year's theme of “Artificial Intelligence & Digital Technology” is sure to inspire some incredible designs.
Our day begins at Clara Maria Farm, where we will meet the van Wees family and learn all about the premium cheese that is carefully crafted here. Our hosts will serve you a customary Dutch breakfast, offering an assortment of breads, sliced meats, sweet jam, fresh fruits, juice and coffee. Each breakfast table comes equipped with a half wheel of delicious, cheese, that you are free to eat to your hearts content! Following breakfast is a cheese making demonstration accompanied with tasty samples for you to nibble and test your palette with your newly acquired cheese knowledge! Next we get a complete introduction to Dutch clogs at the Van Wee’s wood working shop where you will have an opportunity to see how the famous, beautiful wooden shoes are hand-made by artisans in the traditional fashion. Before we leave the Farm, there will be time for you to visit the incredibly well stocked gift shop.
From here we leave the countryside for the urban metropolis of Amsterdam, where 50 miles of narrow canals and over 1000 bridges connect the city together. Upon arrival in the city, a short orientation will be provided, finishing at Dam Square where you can begin your independent explorations of the sites and attractions for the rest of the day. Take a boat ride among the picturesque canals or visit the Van Goh Museum, Ann Frank House, the Jordaan area or the De Negen Straatjes (Nine Little Streets). Sample the many culinary Dutch delights as you stroll the beautiful alleyways, bridges and canals, now illuminated by twenty-four light displays that transforming the city into a wondrous canvas of illuminated art.
