Since 1693 through to contemporary times, champagne has been paired with luxury and festivities the world over. Today we will take you on a wine-lovers journey that celebrates the magic, history, flavors and fantasy found only in the champagne region of France! RTT invites you to join us for an unforgettable excursion that will “up” your wine game and show you why only the beautiful “bubbles” produced in this region of France are given the honored title of “Champagne” and everything else is just sparkling wine!
Our adventure begins in Reims where we visit the Cathedral Notre Dame the Reims, one of Europe’s most stunning examples of 13th-century Gothic architecture and fondly referred to as the little sister of Paris. Afterward there will be some free time to stroll along the charming streets, do a little shopping or perhaps visit one of the café’s for a bite to eat before we travel deeper into the heart of champagne country.
Next, we visit the quaint village of Hautvillers, nestled above the most exclusive vineyards in the entire Champagne Region. Here, we visit a local champagne vinter (winemaker) who will share his families long standing traditions and passion for the art and craft of making fine champagne. Following this introduction we will enjoy the first bubbly delight of the day with a guided tasting of three different champagnes.
We will begin with a Brut 1er Cru, a fine Champagne with lively bubbles and a revealing richness and freshness. Now it is time to descent into the underground champagne cellar, where our host will provide an in-depth look at how champagne is developed, aged and bottled while explaining how the cellar functions as an important role in the production of high quality champagne. Back above ground, we move on to the Grande Réserve, a champagne of golden color with bright hints of peach and apricot before rounding off our tasting with a radiant pink Rosé Extra Brut that offers a clean and elegant flavor. Before we depart for our grand finale, be sure to visit the resting place of the famous Monk Dom Perignon and say a little thank-you for the glorious contribution he made to modern wine culture and all the champagne bubbles you enjoyed today!
With the happy glow of champagne in our cheeks, we make our final stop of the day in the picturesque town of Epernay where the famous “Avenue de Champagne” awaits your exploration. Here, you will find the grand champagne houses that offer the crème de la crème in premium champagne brands and highly sought after vintages. There will be plenty of free time to independently visit the array of champagne houses found here for additional tastings and shop for wines for your private collection.
