Journey with us on this 5-day trip that is not only a feast for the eyes, but mind, body and soul!
Day 1: A morning departure from Frankfurt Airport takes us directly to Marrakesh. Upon arrival at the airport, we will meet our local guide, travel to our hotel and get settled in. Over the next few days we will be hypnotized and enchanted by the magic of Morocco and experience the fascinating ambiance, scents and colorful culture that inspired the legendary 1001 Nights fairytale!
Day 2: We start our day bright and early with breakfast at the hotel, before traveling through Morocco, into the vibrant and dynamic landscape of the Middle Atlas Mountains enroute to Fes, the spiritual and cultural capital of Morocco . Founded by Moulay Idris I., the first major Islamic ruler of Morocco who choose Fes to be his royal residence. The city is not only the oldest, but one of the most beautiful of the royal cities of Morocco, bested only by Marrakesh. Fes is famous for the oldest and largest medina (old town) in all northern Africa, also boasting a leather tannery and a bustling, colorful souk (market).
Another gem found here is the University of Al Quaraouiyine, an architectural masterpiece located in the medina and one of the oldest universities in the world. As one of the country’s most important cultural assets, Fes earned the prestigious status of becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After our local guide has introduced you to the highlights and sites of this impressive city, there will time for you to shop the markets, sample some delicious food and further explore Fes at your own pace. Dinner will be provided upon return to the hotel and the evening free for you to relax or get a closer look at our host city.
Day 3: After breakfast at the hotel we continue our sight-seeing tour with a visit the royal city of Meknes, founded in the 11th century. Meknes became the capital of Morocco under Sultan Moulay Ismail who spent fifty years building fantastical palaces, mosques and gardens within the safety of the city wall. The fantastic souks of Meknes elevate ordinary items to exceptional treasures, making shopping here a true delight. The royal city of Meknes also offers countless art-historical monuments, such as the Great Mosque of Meknes from 1162, the Kasbah of Moulay Ismail and the most famous and most beautifully decorated city gate in all Morocco, Bab Mansour.
Our journey continues to the country's capital, Rabat, the current royal headquarters. Here you will find a perfect mixture of “old & new” styles of architectural masterpieces such as the impressive Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the Royal Palace that showcases intricate mosaics and quintessential Arabic interior design. These three landmarks embody the rich history of Morocco. There will be ample time for you to independently explore the mesmerizing buildings and other sites introduced by our local guide, before we return to our hotel for dinner and evening of free time.
Day 4: After breakfast at the hotel, our attention turns to seeing all that Marrakesh has to offer, but not before we visit the famous metropolis of Casablanca, which rose to international fame from the movie “Casablanca” and Humphrey Bogart’s famous line; “Here’s looking at you, kid”. Today Casablanca is the largest city in Morocco and the perfect combination of Moroccan and modern architecture. The Great Mosque of Hassan II, an architectural treasure rising majestically over the ocean. In addition to the most spectacular view of the surroundings, the mosque is dressed in an elegant assortment of decorations of the highest quality of workmanship.
In the afternoon we arrive back in Marrakesh, the Pearl of the South and the second most important royal city in the country. Upon arrival, our local guide will introduce us to the highlights of the city, the incredible architecture, as well as the widespread Moroccan tile patterns. One of the city’s most notable buildings is the impressively tall Koutoubia Mosque, celebrated as the iconic landmark of Marrakesh. The Medina here is a densely packed, walled medieval city dating to the Berber Empire, where you can find colorful alleys, bustling souks and shop for a variety of spices, traditional textiles, pottery and jewelry. After a thorough exploration of all Marrakesh has to offer, it is time to return to our hotel for our last dinner and evening in Morocco.
