Thanksgiving at Cochem Castle

Our Thanksgiving day adventure begins with a visit to one of the oldest Christmas Markets along the Moselle River in Bernkastel- Kues. The unique atmosphere of this historical city will whisper the sweet joy of Christmas into your heart while the alluring smell of famous Moselle Wine in hot steaming mugs sends out a warm welcome to your other senses! Festively decorated stalls filled with high-end artisan crafts, Christmas decorations of all sorts and, delicious gingerbread and other tasty snacks are waiting to be discovered. We invite you to stroll along cobblestone streets framed by adorned half-timbered houses, sampling the many culinary delights of the market as you go. After this early taste of Christmas, we continue along the Moselle, following its windy bendy path all the way to Cochem for our next adventure.

Upon arrival in Cochem, we venture onto the castle perched high above the town. Burg Reichsburg is over 1000 years old and proclaimed by local lore to be the original "Sleeping Beauty" castle. After a castle tour with a local guide (included), we will dig into a festive medieval-style Thanksgiving dinner (included) in the Knight’s Dining Hall. This tasty regional meal features rye bread with schmaltz spread, beef soup, a turkey leg, flatbread, cheese, nuts, and grapes. Wine will be served in a souvenir wine mug (beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase). We will be entertained throughout the meal with bawdy stories about medieval table manners and enjoy live entertainment before the Knight’s Games begin after dinner.
