Day 1: Our adventure gets underway with an early morning departure, setting us up for a late-morning arrival at the Alkmaar Cheese Market in Holland, where you will witness the Dutch cheese trade from the merchant’s perspective. Walk among giant wheels of cheese where you can taste an assortment of classical dutch cheeses like Gouda, Edam, Leiden, Frisian, and others along with smoked and herbed varieties. Take advantage of this opportunity to shop for souvenirs and wonderful cheeses to bring home to share with envious friends. Next we depart for the Windmill Village of Zaanse Schanz for a morning of marveling at some of Holland's most iconic windmills. With your included special Zaanse Schanz card, you have the opportunity to enjoy several museums and windmills as well as the Verkade Chocolate and Biscuit Factory These combined delicious Dutch experiences take you back in time to the early twentieth century where you can learn more about the history of biscuits and chocolate using the original and still working machines. Later we travel to our hotel on the northern coast, check in to our Hotel and enjoy a well deserved dinner before we retire for the evening.
Day 2: After breakfast at the hotel, today we visit Amsterdam. Here 50 miles of narrow canals, 1000 bridges that connect more than 70 islands, threaded together by thousands of streets and alleyways, all lined with uncountable numbers of beautiful buildings, await your discovery. We start our day with a guided boat ride along the picturesque canals where we will learn all about the surrounding historical locations the city has to offer. The combination of waterways, amazing architecture and unique Dutch attitude of “Gezellig” make Amsterdam a rare gem. The remainder of the day we encourage you to perhaps visit the Van Goh Museum, Ann Frank House, the Jordaan area with its precious gardens or the De Negen Straatjes (Nine Little Streets). If you find yourself getting hungry, keep your eye out for Stroopwafels, a sensational sweet Dutch treat made from two wafer thin, cookie like waffles glued together with a delectably thick caramel syrup. Another classic culinary creation the Netherlands is known for is Stamppot, a hearty dish made mashed potato, vegetables and smoked sausages such as Dutch Rookworst, Spanish Chorizo or Polish Kielbasa. As the evening draws near, we will regroup for our transfer back to hotel, sit down for another tasty dinner and relax for the night after a wonderfully fun-filled day of sightseeing.
Day 3: After an early breakfast and hotel checkout, we begin our journey to the grand finale, the renowned Keukenhof Tulip Gardens. But no trip to Holland would be complete without a visit to a cheese farm, so an essential detour must be made along the way. At the Clara Maria Cheese Farm and we will enjoy a first-hand demonstration in wooden shoe production and traditional cheese-making with tasty samples! The highlight of our final day is the tulip fields and the Keukenhof Tulip Garden where we experience its annual theme “Flower Classics” featuring 7 million flowering bulbs in a breathtaking spring landscape display. Chill out on a whisper boat ride (not included) or doze on the lawn amongst the artistic floral arrangements. We spend the afternoon there until you’re flowered out, and depart in time for a comfortable evening arrival back at Ramstein.
